Airport Advice: Simplify Security Checks

Airport security checks have become more intensive than ever, and this trend will probably continue for quite some time. Many unlucky travelers have spent hours at security checks; improperly preparing for this part of traveling can result in missed flights in addition to the inconvenience and frustration of time wasted.

There are many things you can do to reduce the headache of dealing with airport security. While you can’t avoid the checks altogether, or prevent yourself from being targeted for a random screening, following some simple rules can certainly help.

First and foremost be aware of which items each airline you’ll be traveling prohibits on its flights and within the secured boarding area. Even if you are an experienced, frequent traveler, these lists of prohibitions change often. Check information for the airports you’ll be passing through, and information for each airline. Prohibited items usually include various weapons and unsafe material (such as flammables). There are also special restrictions on liquids of any kind.

Secondly, your trip through the checkpoint itself can be considerably eased by dressing appropriately and organizing your carry-on possessions ahead of time. For clothing, avoid anything with metal when possible. Keep in mind that items like body piercings also may set off metal detectors.

By preparing to avoid things that may send up red flags, and by being aware of things that you need to alert security personnel to, you can reduce the stress of traveling by air.
